I was recruited by the company founder to provide the business operational expertise and people management skills to uncover and resolve obstacles precluding value maximization prior to foreseen sale. My primary focus was on building the necessary infrastructure (people, processes, procedures, strategies) for a firm that had ‘hit the wall’ (self-described internal term). I founded this start-up company which focused on reducing the rising employee healthcare costs in small businesses. Conceived the concept and packaged a solution to a market where vendor incentives were principally opposed to cost control. I conducted market research to pinpoint product differentiation points and appropriate distribution channels. I then identified strategic partners and negotiated appropriate product integration and price thresholds. I led the public face and operational aspects of this $22 M entity whose task was to supply food to serve hungry households (30,000 meals per day). I was primarily responsible for the development of, and inspired implementation to, a strategic plan that would take the organization through its next two levels of growth. I succeeded a 25-yr icon and, accordingly, had to make necessary internal restructurings to install the appropriate policies and talent that would take the organization to its full potential.
