I graduated with 1st class honours in BSc Medical Sciences with Professional Training Year from the University of Exeter and currently study MBBS Medicine at the University of East Anglia. During my professional training year I gained industrial experience at RIKEN Center for Brain Sciences, based in Tokyo. The lab (Takumi Lab for Mental Biology) study the molecular basis of psychiatric conditions, with a particular focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder. My main project was modelling specific genomic variants, called copy number variations (CNVs), in mice using gene editing technologies including CRISPR-Cas9 and Cre-Lox. I was also involved in behavioural research which included seizure experiments in genetically modified mice.In my final year of study at Exeter, I undertook lab-based research into Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis as part of my dissertation. From this project I achieved the highest grade in my year, with a mark of 88% and received the prize of Special Commendation for Scientific Research and Communication.Currently, as a medical student I am always eager to find new research opportunities where I can. I’m dedicated and always want to gain new experiences.
