Internal ProjectGlobal Quality Partners Feb 2015 - May 2015Boston, Ma, UsSetup the Broadleaf “Heat Clinic” demo site on a CentOS, Tomcat/Spring, & MySQL stack. The system is a complete DevOps demo & training site, whereby continuous builds are run via Jenkins & Maven, deployed via Chef to CentOS Servers running Tomcat & MySQL Docker containers, setup with New Relic monitoring agents. Synthetic New Relic Search & Sort tests are run in both a Production & Development/Test Environment setup. Subsequently, a JUnit compatible BDD Specification-By-Example test, using Cucumber, Maven, Selenium, Java, & Groovy is executed to validate minimalistic “Performance Budgets” in Development versus Production. I am presently creating several presentations, marketing, & training videos from this setup.

Performance & Automation ArchitectDentaquest Dec 2015 - Apr 2017Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, UsI was the architect of, and implemented a solution in which:• A Performance Center Of Excellence was created. I introduced Neotys’ Enterprise solution, Neoload with Team Server, to share resources across the organization, and to produce accurate results. Dynatrace was in house, but largely unused.• Setup an Automation Center Of Excellence that produced, published, and managed an Enterprise Testing Framework. The framework includes libraries to ease the programming of database connectivity, integration of tests with TFS and MTM, Data Object Mapping, Web Services, Selenium, etc. It was built using Visual Studio, C#, Specflow (Cucumber/BDD), Selenium, and other open source libraries.In conclusion, I helped the client achieve the following:• Train SCRUM Teams (12) & SQA, as appropriate, in C#, OOP, BDD/Gherkin, and Selenium/PageObjects.• The Enterprise Automation Framework is now utilized in all Regression Test Suites in the Enterprise Release Paths, as well as in all SCRUM teams for Sprint Success testing.• The Enterprise Regression Suite was increased in volume and breadth for more test coverage by over 200%.• The Performance COE now uses Real-World Workloads in Pre-Production load tests, characterized by analysis with Dynatrace.• Performance COE better equipped and well trained as Performance Engineers, with expertise in Neoload, Dynatrace, and proper engineering practice, including the use of more scientific methods, and the use of statistical analysis to deliver their results with high confidence, and the trust of their peers throughout the organization.• Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Operation Level Agreements (OLA) established from analyzing real-world use in Dynatrace, allowing for Shifting-Left with Non-Functional Requirements.• Dynatrace utilized to measure Real-Time User Experience and Business Transactions. Dynatrace is also utilized in Pre-Prod & Production for expedited Root Cause Analysis, usually led by the Performance COE. -
Bdd Toolsmith - Consultant From GqpIron Mountain Sep 2014 - Feb 2015Boston, Massachusetts, UsThe client wanted to bridge the gap between the skill set of traditional quality assurance personnel and the skill set required to operate a continuous integration testing solution that I myself (David Alves) had previously designed (several years earlier), as well as help resolve some of the issues presented by implementing Behavior Driven Development (BDD) in modern day organizations. In designing a custom solution to this problem, David quickly utilized untapped features of the BDD framework used (JBehave) to transform data tables to support multiple test environments.Refactored the test framework code for greater modularization and reuse.Created a English like Domain Specific Language (DSL) using Groovy, to easily enable non-Java programmers to create tests.Created a Graphical User Interface (GUI) using the NetBeans Platform, that allowed any user to run existing tests, build new tests (using the DSL beneath the GUI), and persisted all BDD framework artifacts using the Java Persistence API (JPA), which allowed the artifacts to be better managed, searched, and reused. -

Automated Software Quality Consultant From GqpIron Mountain 2010 - 2012Utilized JBehave, Sauce Labs, and Perf4j to conduct Performance Regression tests, utilizing the infrastructure of previously developed Behavior Driven Development (BDD) test cases.Initially introduced a multi-tier load testing strategy for Performance Regression, Scalability, and Root Cause Analysis. Eventually replaced this with an end-to-end, black-box load test strategy that leveraged Progress Actional and dynaTrace for in-depth end-to-end diagnostics.Created, executed, analyzed and reported upon load test results conducted with HP Performance Center and JMeter.Setup Sonar, an open source tool for Code Quality Management. Created custom Sonar Plugins to report on metrics such as Technical Debt, Security Violations (as reported by Veracode, a third-party service), and Defects by individual teams, by severity. The goal was centralized metric management, yet ubiquitous information everywhere, as Sonar gadgets could be displayed in Atlassian Confluence and JIRA, both tools utilized by the RC2.0 team and its management.Managed and implemented Continuous Integration via Atlassian Bamboo. This included Nightly User Acceptance Test Regression utilizing Sauce Labs and the JBehave framework. Also used Bamboo for Automated Performance Regression tests.Introduced Browser Compatibility Testing utilizing the JBehave framework I designed and Sauce Labs. Utilizing the framework and Sauce Labs, all four (4) supported browsers could be tested simultaneously.Lead a team of five (5) in automated functional testing, performance engineering, and management of code quality, defect management, and security (statics analysis, penetration testing, etc.).

Tests involved testing of a site heavy in Adobe Flex. Micro Focus SilkPerformer was the tool of choice.Conducted Performance and Stress tests, using HP Loadrunner, against a state-of-the-art merchandising system for Century 21 Department Stores in New York, NY. Project lasted several months, and the project was extensive, including simulation of all corporate departments.Conducted security strategy assessment for Sony Music Entertainment, in order to properly plan Penetration Testing for the Sony Music Artist Royalty Portal. After the assessment, managed a team of security professionals in Penetration Testing of the portal. Also, acted as the customer liaison and project lead.Architected and managed automation for Sophelle’s Continuous Quality (browser compatibility testing) offering. Framework and solution was implemented with Selenium Remote Control, and Selenium Grid, using Java as the implementation language.Managed and contributed to numerous software automation projects for various fashion retailers, utilizing HP QuickTest Pro (QTP).
