My postdoctoral research is to understand how psychiatric risk factors such as ARC, MECP2 and CYFIP1 affect neuronal and astrocyte activities, rodent frontal cortical development and local circuit functions, and to reveal conserved biological and circuit mechanisms that may underlie human motor and cognitive malfunction in psychiatric conditions. We also made many technical improvements to make it possible to image neuronal genomic activity and in vivo calcium activities from neurons and astrocytes in disease models. • Reveal the critical role of CYFIP1 gene in maintaining frontal cortical circuit function and rodent motor and cognitive functions• In vivo characterization of Rett syndrome related MECP2 gene function in frontal cortical astrocytes• Studied ARC gene function and regulation in frontal cortical circuit development and motor learning
