About Cate Ginsbach-Chen

Intercultural researcher with qualitative research and analysis skills (e.g. interview, observation) seeking new opportunities in researching the experience and development of international communities in the UKI recently completed my PhD study at the University of Edinburgh. My research explores musicians' international music projects and experiences from an intercultural communication and identity perspective. During my time in Edinburgh, I have applied my intercultural skills and knowledge in organising music and cultural events (e.g. Bilingual Ceilidh, Music Across Borders Project), facilitating interactions between diverse cultural communities in Scotland. Believing one should have a passion for learning and developing oneself into a well-rounded person across cultures, I have been devoting myself to doing so. Welcome to get in touch with me if you share a common interest.

The idea of this project came into being in one Popular Music Seminar. Some of us started discussing "World Music" and current music and international education trends at Higher Education Institutions. These issues are urgent because we have more-than-ever international student groups, communities, and musicians on the local level. Meanwhile, there is not enough time or effort made yet for people to get familiar with each other. My colleagues and I consider an intercultural rapport in local communities beneficial to individual and social development. We hope we may facilitate sustained music and social interactions between cultural groups through our Music Across Borders Project. In this project, I am responsible for:• writing funding applications for the project and secured £3670• managing the budget• planning, organising, and hosting concerts• We reached out to and connected with more than 50 musicians, during which I also communicated regularly with musician groups and organisations for concert promotion• The project engaged around 400 audiences and established a shared network of international musicians in the city
