Leading the design, development, production and commercialization of analog and power subsystems for microsatellites.

Annual guest lecture on Satellite Power Systems given to the students from the Interdisciplinary Space Master program (ISM).

Development of electronic subsystems for small satellites. Active involvement in the complete product development cycle; from early design, through assembly/verification to product delivery and spacecraft integration/operation support.

Research and development on digitally controlled regulators and control algorithms for solar array power conditioning. The R&D included feasibility studies, system and control loop modeling/design, programming of controllers, board design, mounting, testing and reporting. Additionally also tasked to assess the use of series sequential switching for short-eclipse space missions by making an energy dissipation trade-off with shunt switching and an applied comparison for a set of flying ESA satellites. Duties also involved general power subsystem support to various ESA projects like Fly Your Satellite (FYS) designs reviews and support to Concurrent Design sessions.

Systems and hardware design of the International Space Station payload: Cube-Zero. It is a test cube for on-orbit commissioning of the ICE Cubes ISS microgravity experimentation platform. Work covered project phase 0 to phase D which involved definition of system specifications, hardware design, engineering model manufacturing and general design documentation. The cube was launched and installed onboard the ISS in June 2018.

Design and development of an automated positioning system as linear scanner for the testing of ICEYE’s SAR satellite antenna array (hardware, software and client support). Fulfilled requirements of 1mm positioning accuracy, high rigidity and the delivery of a Python API with documentation and general user manual.

Conceptual design of a gas-driven siren as excitation system for a cryogenic Oxygen-Hydrogen rocket engine. Produced deliverables included amongst other P&ID diagrams, bill of materials, control panel design, control topology and simulations.

Auditing of Belgian Industrial Engineering institutions. Verification of educational standards, discussion of shortcomings, raise awareness of educational quality standards and eventually report to accreditation institutions.

Assessment of a novel hysteretic-type regulator with switching frequency control for a high-bandwidth Buck converter. Work involved at first an in-depth design, modeling and characterization of the analog control loop and converter performance. It was followed by a prototype design and mounting, lab-testing, model validation and resulting topology documentation.

Comparative study of a set of integrated Flyback converters including the definition of test variables and procedures, in-lab testing and reporting. Additional work involved the upgrade of an automated test setup for DC-DC converters by hardware and software modifications to comply with new models.
