Episkeptis (beta) was a facebook application which also allowed users to sign up using their email address. Users who decided to create an account using their facebook credentials could filter the information on the website based on their friends activity.Users rated and provided their opinions on their favourite (and not so favourite) bar, clubs, restaurants and tavernas. We had developed several ways for users to discover new and popular places in their town such as advanced search, top places according to reviews, popular now and rated by friends.Advancements in Facebook's functionality (introduced many of our application's features) and economic turmoil in Greece resulted in us terminating the project. Nonetheless, building an application, managing a technical team and seeking revenue was a truly remarkable experience.

Teaching Business Management students. We discuss and analyse how Information Systems can be used to manage an organization effectively, support the information needs of its employees and the risks involved in adopting new technology.

Teaching 1st and 3rd year Computing students. We discuss and analyse different methods of developing Information Systems and the characteristics of information in a Web 2.0 world in order to promote an understanding of the social and ethical issues relating to Information Systems design today.

During my postgraduate studies, I was involved in a group consultancy project for one of my modules which focused on the counselling of a company over an IT related issue. I was the Group Leader of the team that consisted of three other members. Dr Walter Skok, the Principal Lecturer and Module Leader, introduced our team to M3 Housing’s management team. Then at the company’s premises we discussed issues that concerned the implemented Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and the vision they had for its future. M3 Housing allowed us to visit their premises again and explore the situation around the implemented CRM system, the opinion and experience of its users, its database and the associated programs. We also met with the very knowledgeable IT team of M3 Housing and reviewed the history concerning previous implementations.As a team, we hosted a presentation at Kingston University’s Business School campus where we invited members of the company’s management team to demonstrate the results of our research. The findings related to both M3 Housing and the latest developments in the CRM market, including the use of open source software. We further discussed the key issues of concern to the company and learned more about what they wanted to see analysed further in the final report.Without doubt, this was one of the most valuable experiences during my MSc course. I learned a lot about keeping a team together even when things do not go as planned, supporting the final goal and the decisions made and inspiring others to follow by applying a relation-oriented leadership style. I also had an excellent opportunity to apply the latest social media tools in project organization in order to keep everyone updated and monitor project progress. Subsequently, we set up a private social network that greatly enhanced communication between team members.

Training on Optical fiber, Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) devices, Palm Code Modulation (PCM) coders and Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. In addition to the training part, my daily duties included updating a custom made Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system for the whole Heraklion town, approximately 200000 subscribers. I can sincerely say that this was a life changing experience as only then did I realize that my career path was probably wrong, I did not enjoy working alone as I would rarely speak to people or deal with any customers in person. It was a stale working environment with total lack of any creativity whatsoever.
