Varied service as the executive director of "Voices in Support of Community," a nonprofit that uses oral histories and storytelling as a catalyst for social justice. This project has many aspects, including an award-winning public affairs TV and radio show, called Forward Forum, an upcoming book, "Voices of Conscience and Courage," a variety of oral history and community empowerment projects, and numerous other presences in social and traditional media.

Created Forward Forum, then a three hour Saturday morning public affairs show on WXXM (The Mic), Madison's Air American affiliate. Show traveled to WTDY News/Talk radio. I then returned to my roots at WORT community radio as Monday host of the noon hour program, "A Public Affair," (APA). Then in 2015, I began a TV/radio/podcast version of Forward Forum produced out of the Sun Prairie (WI) Media Center. In over 1200 hours of radio, my guests have ranged from nationally-known authors, elected officials, and performing artists to local activists, civic leaders, and community activists, encompassing social justice-related topics locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.My history at WORT Community Radio goes back more than 30 years, as a host of the LGBT program Queery, producer-host of the Access Hour, and frequent contributor to the news operations, as well as service on board committees. This work complements my broader work as an independent videographer and my many presences in the social and traditional media, and including the ethnic and LGBT minority presses. I have also been a very active participant in the national media reform movement that began with a landmark 2002 conference in Madison.

In 2011, I began service as president of the WI Division (where I served for several years), as well as service as a Great Lakes regional representative to the national steering committee. This followed my 2009 service as president of our Dane County (WI) chapter. In 2010, I was elected as one of two Great Lakes representative to the national steering committee, which would later become the National Council. I took a leadership role in several realms, including the Communications, Advocacy, and Nominations Committees, and on the Planning Committee for two national annual meetingsIn 2013, I co-founded the LGBT human rights affinity group of the UNA-USA, working with UNA/UNF human rights staffer Ryan Kaminski, and later, co-chair Septina Florimonte.I have hosted and produced more than a dozen UN Association and UN-themed radio and television programs. One of my proudest accomplishments was in successfully advancing the nomination of UNA-Milwaukee leader Joan Robertson, who received one of two national lifetime leadership awards at the age of 98. Joan had done much to advance the work of the state division and local chapters, and had often hosted meetings of the WI Governor's Council on the UN. She had supported the UN in very visible and tangible ways in the years since its founding, a legacy continued by her daughter and granddaughter. Eight years of service as a mayorally-appointed commissioner on the Madison Equal Opportunities Commission, including several years as secretary/exec committee member. Helped lead efforts at community outreach, make recommendations for legislation (including provisions recognizing homelessness and unemployment history as protected classes). Preceded by two years of service in the mid-1980s as chair of the MEOC Housing Committee.

In addition to acting in a community outreach capacity as a liaison between the agency and various community partners, I designed the Center for Families' print and on-line materials, and coordinated the planning of special events, including the recruitment of event volunteers. This agency, rooted in the tradition of three previous agencies with roots going back several decades in the greater Madison community, is a newly-merged organization created in 2011, and part of this position's challenge is to shine a light on the newly-created "Center for Families," and both its longstanding and new missions. A special emphasis is also currently being placed on building upon and strengthening the agency's presence in the Social Media.

Much of my consulting work with nonprofits and communications occurred in a consulting context, prior to the formation of my LLC in late 2007. This work sometimes occurred simultaneous to other full-time positions in the fields of nonprofit affordable housing, civil rights enforcement, and journalism.Some examples:* 1989-2000 Contributing Writer, and Madison Bureau Chief for The Wisconsin Light, and Wisconsin In Step; other free-lance work for a variety of local and national publications* 1994: Principal author and coordinator of a successful grant application under the Wisconsin Library Services and Technology Grant program, that provided initial funding for a Library and associated Rehabilitative Services in the Dane County Jail; our grant was ranked first among over 100 received.* 1992: Following several years as an advisor to Tammy Baldwin and other local politicians, served as the Northern Wisconsin Media Director for the Clinton-Gore campaign, living and working in Wausau. Directed all aspects of a four-employee community non-profit, including oversight of programming, administration, fundraising, grant-writing, community education and speaker's bureau, a counseling line, support groups, community meeting space and a 6,000 volume library, with the help of a 12 person board and over 60 trained volunteers, most of whom contributed at least 3 hours/week, and often more.

Have served as a board president or committee chair, or as an executive committee member, in a variety of nonprofit and government roles.

Also served as a board member (including service as board secretary and publicity committee chair) in the late 1980s, and again in the late 1990s.The Wisconsin Community Fund supports grassroots organizations working for progressive social change.Since its founding in 1982, the Wisconsin Community Fund has awarded grants to over two hundred and fifty groups in fulfilling a mission of supporting social justice organizing. (In recent years, the mission of the Wisconsin Community Fund has become part of the work of Forward Community Investments, where I'm an active collaborator/supporter.)
