For over a decade I worked with food. I enjoyed so many aspects of the environment - the tight-knit teams I would be a part of, the rush of a good review in the paper doubling your customers for the weekend, the logistical challenges of constantly changing menus and seasonal ingredients. With all that said, what I loved the most was how the industry fueled my creativity not only culinarily, but also through the journey of developing the leadership skills needed to bring order to the chaos. Those benefits all come at a cost, though. I could never spend holidays or weekends with my loved ones and could feel my body wearing thin. I knew it was a time for change and I found myself in a data collection role for emerging AR/VR technologies. Peeking at the future of those technologies lit the creative blaze in me again like water on an oil fire. I started teaching myself Python so I could get as close to that development as possible.I found an opportunity with Tech Elevator through the Niantic scholarship program, aimed at increasing diversity in the tech space (Yay Niantic!) and have been studying Java since then. I am thrilled for my future prospects at making my mark on the tech world with a decade of lessons forged in the fires of a kitchen supporting me.
