In my previous role in Neck Assembly, I began assisting the scheduler by teaching them about what things to consider before placing a guitar on the schedule. I began keeping track of parts needed, and ways to improve the efficiency of the schedule by considering as many production constraints as possible and how to factor them in to making an optimal schedule. That knowledge soon developed into a full time role of ensuring that the optimal mix of product was flowing through all points of the facility and understanding how each department worked, and what factors helped or hindered their success. I was the first person in this role that has become an important part of how the Custom shop operates. It was also during this time that I was tasked with managing the Direct-to-Consumer orders that came into the Custom Shop via Gibson's retail space in downtown Nashville, The Gibson Garage. I would provide daily updates on the progress of each order and follow up directly with the Garage and the Made 2 Measure team as necessary. My other task involved taking the lead in implementing the TrakSYS system into the Custom Shop using RFID technology to allow us to track product as it moved throughout the facility. I worked closely with a team of engineers from EOSYS as they designed and implemented the tracking system. This months long process provided me with many challenges, and demanded growth and understanding on an entirely new level.

On August 5, 2019 I transferred to the Gibson Custom Shop. When I first transferred, I was called upon to assist in the Rough Mill department by cutting out and sanding guitar bodies, and also assembling and machining guitar necks to custom specifications; I continued to fill in as a binder as needed, and began learning to operate one of the CNC machines. In December 2019 I began training in a more permanent role in the neckline where I was responsible for attaching fingerboards, head veneers, and nuts to guitar necks. This is a fast-paced role that requires great attention to detail, and impeccable time-management skills. I am very excited to be working with an elite team of skilled luthiers and I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can from this great team and company.

From August 13, 2018 to August 2, 2019 I worked at Gibson USA mainly in the Bodyline department. During my year there I worked for a few months as a slack-belt operator, followed by a few months in the Whitewood department where I processed guitars (inserted ground-wire, and end-pin) in preparation for the color-prep department, and also sanded the neck joint. Following that I worked as a rim-sander back in the Bodyline department, and then as a binder. By the time barely a year had passed I had learned nearly every job in the Bodyline department and would often be called upon to float and fill in wherever help was needed.
