In this role I was responsible for the management and delivery of the council's Legal, Democratic, Civic and Coroner services which amounted to approximately 40 fte and budget of £5 million p/a. I was also the council's Monitoring Officer. Whilst working with York I re-shaped the legal team and introduced a more business like operating model with a greater emphasis on client focus. In addition I provided legal advice and support in connection with a number of high profile legal challenges including a referral to the European Commission in relation to the procurement of a large housing development.

Cheltenham

In the role of Borough Solicitor I was responsible for leading the council's in-house legal team comprising 15 lawyers and a number of support staff. Democratic services also fell with the remit of my role and I was the council's designated Monitoring Officer. I undertook a number of projects whilst at CBC including leading a project to establish a shared legal service between the local authorities in Gloucestershire. I also provided legal advice and support in connection with some high profile matters such as the High Court challenge by a former Chief Executive.
