About Quentin Jensen

Hello! I'm highly motivated to help solve major global issues through advancing HPC, bioinformatics and/or CS education. I have several years in computer science research and three publications in IEEE. In my most recent publication, I created a tool that intercepts disk accesses and instead aggregates them in memory, reducing I/O latency up to 1.75x.I use engaging, empathetic, and research-backed teaching methods to help computer science students discover their own interests and abilities.

Developed a novel I/O aggregation technique to scale closed-source C/C++ binaries, common in bioinformatics workflows, resulting in up to a 1.75x gain in I/O performance. Presented findings at COMPSAC ‘21.Wrote a white paper presenting a proof-of-concept for a Python workflow (SnakeMake) to optimize an enzyme for a particular substrate, describing existing software that can be used to create a complete novel workflow.Wrote a white paper on AlphaFold2’s strengths, limitations and current and predicted applications.Developed an I/O analysis tool to identify solutions to bottlenecks in closed-source bioinformatics software.Developed a generalized and extendable framework for resolving performance bottlenecks in supercomputing applications. This tool profiled, analyzed, and visualized hardware performance metrics to expose poor resource utilization, resulting in significant improvements to several Exascale Computing Project applications. Presented findings at The International Conference on High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis.Developed a framework for automatic source code annotation using Caliper to verify the hardware performance characteristics of proxy applications. Presented findings at Western CEDAR Scholar’s Week.
