Topic PhD thesis: I developed nanobodies, small antigen-binding proteins derived from heavy chain-only antibodies found in camelids, for the imaging and blockade of the immune checkpoint LAG-3. My research has led to a patent and has been published in 4 peer-reviewed articles. Detecting LAG-3 in cancer patients could serve as a tool to predict therapy outcome when treated with LAG-3 blocking moieties. As of 2021, there are 12 different drugs targeting LAG-3 under clinical evaluation by companies like BMS, GSK, Merck, etc.Techniques learned: Cell culture, Gene cloning, Viral vector production, Bacterial protein expression and purification - HPLC, Small-animal imaging - SPECT/CT, Radiolabeling of proteins - 99mTc, Optimization of cancer immunotherapy assays, Animal immunotherapy testing.Location: Laboratory of molecular and cellular therapy - Vrije Universiteit Brussel
