I am a senior electrical engineer known for automation solutions using skills from both HW and SW domains. I use static-code-checking SW to find bugs and teach improved coding to junior engineers.I design automated devices and SW tools that push work onto computers. Ten years of experience designing circuits for consumer products and another thirteen years of experience writing software CAD tools that support RTL design and software operating devices. HW experience includes designing digital interface boards and I/O interface boards. SW experience includes API programming and static-code-checking (linting) of RTL and device drivers. C++, C#, Perl, Linux programming, Tcl/Tk,Digital circuit design, Analog circuit design, IoT device designSystem Verilog RTL designsource code linting and static checkingTexas Instruments MSP430 firmware programming and device designCurrently seeking opportunities in product design as either a software or hardware engineer.en

Wrote interface SW for an FPGA for the 2023 model Oscilloscope. Coached SQAs on testing HW and SW.
Portland
Joined the Imperium-Electronics startup as a part-time consultant; providing firmware, schematics, and eventually the board layout for their next product. Spending the remaining time learning the following: Learning Texas Instrument’s MSP430 processor and programming environment. Learning C#, Microsoft Visual Studio, and client-server programming in order to automate the small tasks of some hobbies.
Portland, Oregon Area
I joined an emulation team, helping them develop a model for emulating parts of a CPU.
Writing lint rules for a commercial Verilog/VHDL static-code checker in OOP C++. Owning key algorithms in the SW’s core engine. Writing unit tests in Google test harness.
Hillsboro, Oregon
Software engineer with a central CAD team. What I did: Maintained CAD tools that automate RTL design i.e. Code-Linting, Translation from Abstract-Code to RTL, and SW connection layers between two big vendor tools. The results: Code-Linting caught bugs and taught engineers the coding standards. Translating Abstract-Code to RTL gave CPU architects a language and tool for simple expression of their intent. The SW connection between 2 vendor tools was used to added unique functionality to RTL simulations. What I used: Linux programming, C++, Perl, PHP, System Verilog, SystemRDL, vendors' custom APIs. I learned MySQL and how to write a database client.Who I worked with: Worked with CPU designers and vendors' engineers.I also started a Makers club which began my lessons concerning team building and influence.
Learned, summarized, and published a work flow process for data capture with a Logic Analyzer.Trained technicians and engineers in the process. Debugged several problems concerning LogicAnalyzer probing techniques and concerning a new product using that same work flow process. The results: Engineers and technicians read my work and learned the processes. And some debug work I'd done was fixing show-stopping problems with the validation effort.
Electrical engineer in the Oscilloscope Product Line. What I did: Designed interface boards between a digital system and a computer's PCI bus. Worked with Intel motherboards, PLX bridges, and Altera FPGAs to design the interfaces. Worked with Windows XP, Linux, Unix, and DOS. The results: Circuitry I designed is sold in oscilloscopes. Circuitry was reused, speeding up the design cycle. What I used: Programmed with DOS, VHDL, Verilog, and TCL/TK. Used oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and computer aided test systems. Familiar with the basics of hand soldering, wave soldering, and IR-reflow soldering processes. Read textbooks on the PCI bus, high speed digital circuit design, and programming languages. Familiar with the world class processes used by Tektronix.Who I worked with: Worked directly with the technician pool and the service department. Worked with the senior engineers and new engineers. Worked with Software Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and my engineering manager.
An intern once each summer for many different companies. I spent more than a summer at Snohomish County PUD.ATL: Ultrasound Transducer Assembler.Intermec Corp: Cable Assembler.
What I did: I wrote an MSAccess database from the software specification and ideas of the senior engineer. Also summarized software titles so that an educated decision would be made for purchasing one of the software titles. For the Snohomish County PUD, someone was needed to rewrite some old software tools used by engineering. I knew how to program, while the senior engineer only knew how to program Fortran. So I volunteered to learn Fortran and I rewrote the software tools. The senior was happy the tools were rewritten and that he could read the code.
