Summer 2012, me and my friends decided to move forward with one of our school projects: why not try to launch our our nightlife idea with a real startup, a real app and real users?As one of the founders of this startup adventure, I was involved in the complete software engineering process. We decided what our MVP would be, created a roadmap, and brought some structure in our development process.Together with Matthias (and the feedback of the whole team), I wrote a proposal for the iMinds iStart.light program, which we successfully pitched in September 2012. Thanks to this program, we had some funding and a lot of input of experienced coaches to guide us in our journey.I was the technical lead for the development of our application suite: we developed a native Android and iOS app, a backend on Ruby on Rails, a HTML 5 frontend, a data warehouse (Pentaho) for our statistics and a Java desktop application to collect our live music information (with plugins for various DJ systems). My development and architectural tasks were mainly focussed on Android, but I also did a part of the backend platform. Since Android was still a young platform in these days, I developed a small framework to speed up our implementation process.In the run-up to our launch in September 2013, I was also in charge of the communication with our marketing contractors and arranged some visibility on Student Kick-Off 2013. I also loved to give live demo’s and presentations of our achievements to convince people of our product.We also received a "Student Entrepreneur" statute at Ghent University.
