When I was heading to college and having to decide on a major, my choice to follow computer science came down to two main reasons. It was that I liked problem solving and mathematics, and I was fascinated by the ever-advancing field of computers. Ever since I was a kid, I have enjoyed problem solving, starting with the logic puzzles that my math teacher always had on hand. This love extends into my coding, and some of my favorite times are when I am just staring at code for 30 minutes trying to figure out how to solve a problem. The only difference is instead of a logic puzzle, I am now trying to make sense of all the political donations in the US.I have also always enjoyed mathematics and that coupled with my fascination in computers and technology led me to pursuing a Computer Science degree at Calvin University. Computer science is the ideal way to get to constantly solve problems (since the technology and languages used for computers are constantly changing) while also getting to use a fair amount of math. During the pandemic I saw an opportunity at Flatiron to refine my skills in web development using both Ruby on Rails and React. I love learning about new technologies because they present all new problems and challenges to be solved.
