“Software Engineer?”. If you had told a 16-year-old Quincy exactly what he would be doing in the next 5 years, I guarantee that would’ve been his response. I had no idea what a programming language was. Python was just a snake and I was on the fast track to becoming an accountant, or so I thought. Fast forward to today and I don’t regret my pivot into the tech industry one bit. Very few things in life are as satisfying as deploying a project that you’ve tirelessly poured yourself into and having it make an immediate impact. The National Insurance Board is essentially the social security of The Bahamas. In my current role as Development Group Head I’ve been fortunate to engage in these sorts of projects almost routinely.Most recently, I’ve built the backend services for and led the development of the government’s unemployment assistance initiative (a response to persons losing their jobs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic). On day one of its launch the application had over 13,000 persons registered and through its entire life span the application was able to disperse over $230 million dollars.Outside of work, I’m a husband and a father. I am also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Incorporated. I serve on the technology committee for the region, as well as I’m the State of Director for Technology and I also serve as the Treasurer for the local alumni chapter.All in all, I’m a programming nerd that loves to solve unique problems by creating beautiful and powerful applications.Skills/Interests: Node, Python, Flask, Git, SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, TDD, IIS, RPGLE, DevOps, Project Management
