I am assisting in a novel study investigating the effects of cognitive rehabilitation on cognitive functioning and brain adaptation in patients with multiple sclerosis. Additionally, I help with data collection for ongoing research.

Between the 50 and 70 percent of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients suffer from cognitive decline. To date, conventional MRI techniques (e.g. grey and white matter lesions and atrophy) cannot fully explain this impairment. Therefore, our aim is to provide insight in the communication between multiple brain regions (functional connectivity) and relate this with cognitive status of MS patients. Understanding alterations in network properties helps us better understand MS pathology and its relationship with cognition. Ultimately, results can provide novel targets for therapeutic intervention or cognitive rehabilitation.

Brein in beeld is a non-profit foundation that translates science to society (and vice versa). We organize conferences, debates and teach highschool children brain science. I write columns about neuroscience for the magazine Psyche & Brein.

Innovative Apps creates apps and online software for educational, business and marketing purposes. We aim to streamline processes in order to save time (and money).

During this internship I investigated sex differences in the human brain using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). Additionally, I performed 20 MRI scanning sessions to acquire new additional data from dizygotic opposite sex twin pairs, registered with the Netherlands Twin Register (NTR).
