IFREMER offers engineering services to industry from seawater ageing of materials, to hyperbaric testing and even a wave tank up to 20m deep. During the internship, I conducted in-plane impacts on thermoplastic and thermosetting-based composite laminates to compare their suitability for durable trailing edge hydrofoil applications. I also conducted compression-after-impact tests using DIC to compare the post-impact, residual strength properties of seawater-aged composites with unaged composites. Finally, I attempted to improve the sucessfullness of laminate transverse shear tests by testing a variety of stacking sequences. Show less
