I hate pseudoscience.I unapologetically believe in the national security mission of the United States government. I try to be easy to get along with, and appreciate it when others do the same. I’m originally from Arkadelphia, Arkansas. I haven’t lived there for 25 years, but will always consider it home. Everything I am is a reflection of the decent, hardworking, and humble people who live there. I’m married to the love of my life and am privileged to have two young children. I’ve managed to surround myself professionally with brilliant people who regularly give me more than my fair share of the credit for the successes that we collectively achieve. I’ve visited countries all over the world and count down the days until my children are old enough to enjoy adventures in faraway places. The best friend I’ll ever have was my late grandmother. She lost her husband in World War II. He flew planes; she did too. And drove motorcycles. And studied Chemistry at Cal in the 1920s. She was, for lack of a better term, a badass. A cousin of mine, who idolized her, traveled to visit Grandma shortly before she passed away. My cousin asked her what she’d ever been afraid of. Grandma replied, truthfully, that she’d never been afraid of anything. I strive every day to be more like her.I am a freedom of speech absolutist; I believe that to have freedom of conscience, one must have freedom of speech. And I cannot live with freedom of conscience. I work best when I have a view. I like to garden—working in the dirt is good for the soul. Say what you will about Elon Musk, but when he says he’s going to put humans on Mars, I believe him.
