My summer project is a small part of a larger study funded by the European Union in Dr. George Kyei's lab in Ghana. I have 2 projects, a qualitative and a quantitative study conducted in Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Legon University Hospital in Accra. I work with nurses to administer a structured questionnaire for the quantitative study and recruitment of patients into a longitudinal study. I designed the interview guide the qualitative study, oversee the interviews, conduct the analysis and contribute to the writing of the manuscript.

The resident assistants (RAs) are the upper-class student staff who live on each floor within the residence halls and theme houses. Resident assistants build community in the residence halls and assist with day-to-day interactions among residential students. RAs are required to make rounds within their building/house/complex when serving as the RA “on-call” for the building and/or area, provide programming opportunities for the floor’s residents and mediate roommate conflicts as needed.

My duties included: - The development and review of tables for 2017 Tuberculosis (TB) Annual Report using Excel;- Running SAS analysis on the National TB Surveillance System data to develop and update graphs and charts for the Annual TB Report slide set-Described epidemiological trends revealed by charts and graphs on the slide sets

Maseru, Lesotho

FOH works with 14 villages, most of its beneficiaries being either vulnerable and/or infected or affected by HIV and AIDS. My project involved reviving some of the projects that FOH was working on in four of the villages. We worked with a women’s association called Ngoatonyane Take Care Association. This association is made up of 17 trained community caregivers that range from housewives to counselors. We collected information on their beneficiaries to update their records. We also conducted house-to-house visits to some of the families to touch base and to offer them psychosocial support. My supervisor and I also held extensive meetings with the community caregivers and conducted a needs assessment to inform decisions on how to best tackle the community’s major health issues. I presented the findings from the needs assessment at the annual Atlanta Undergraduate Conference on Health and Society.
