The original idea for Cliffhanger Ranch came nearly 20 years ago. Nathan Ormes grew up visiting "Grandma & Grandpa McConnell" in Wise County and developed a deep love for the area, the outdoors, and all it had to offer. There came a point, years ago, when he realized that the amount of outdoor activities and authentic cultural experiences could indeed support visitors if they only knew about them.... It could also support many business opportunities once everyone became aware of what was all around them. At that point, he began a process of research and planning on ideas some thought were pointless. People deeply want to get back to nature and withdrawal from our fast paced materialistic society, at least long enough to realize what is really important in life. There is a huge need and vast opportunity for tourism based services both locally` and regionally that can and will take advantage of the beautiful landscapes in Southwest Virginia.

Contracted over a 20-year period to the General Electric Aviation manufacturing organization. Provide daily technical support and a key player in transitioning aging technologies plant wide. Supported and Taught users on the GE Aviation Web based applications and e-commerce goals. Provided Microsoft Office support, such as general usage issues, installation, & customization. Work closely with current IT staff to serve the entire facility in a broad spectrum of needs. Analyze & Track various security updates and patches initiated internally via corporate IT. Corrected network & local PC problems running all Microsoft Windows OS versions. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot computers running windows 7 and all peripherals. Assembled documentation for various machine configurations and how to fixes. Diagnosed and fixed systems affected by viruses, adware, and spyware. Assisted and Trained users with all PC based products used in house.

Developed early business and work ethics and responsibility with Sears Roebuck & Company. Arranged and scheduled department deliveries and handled most customer complaints. Assisted in the supervision and workload of the daily operations and activities. Reduced employee turnover in the sporting goods department dramatically. Controlled merchandise replenishment on sales floor and in stock room. Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as be an effective team member. Designed and built numerous promotional displays and merchandise presentations. Supervised 12 employees, prepared work schedules, and conducted evaluations. Assisted in many roles during at least two major remodeling projects of the store.
