Campus Vote Project works with universities, community colleges, faculty, students and election officials to reduce barriers to student voting.Our goal is to help campuses institutionalize reforms that empower students with the information they need to register and vote.

In 2012, I ran for elected office to represent thousands of citizens as a Board Member on the Prince George's County Board of Education. In April, I won the primary election as the top vote-getter, which qualified me to run in general election. In November, I earned the votes of 23,000+ citizens in the general election, narrowly missing victory with 47% of the vote. During the process, I knocked on 7,000+ doors, called 300+ citizens and visited 12+ community events.In 2016, I ran for the position again. I won the primary election with the top number of votes, beating out the 10 year incumbent. I then won the general election against the establishment pick, who was supported by nearly 30 elected officials on the local, state and federal levels, by 58% of the vote (equating to over 30,000 voters). I was sworn into office December 2016. In 2020, I ran unopposed for re-election.

The New American Leaders is leading a movement for inclusive democracy by preparing first and second generation Americans to use their power and potential in elected office.We believe that our democracy is stronger when everyone is included and everyone participates. Unfortunately, our elected government, from City Council to Congress, does not reflect our country’s diverse population.NAL is the only national, nonpartisan organization focused on bringing New Americans into the political process. We accomplish our goals by:-Training and inspiring immigrant leaders of all racial and ethnic backgrounds to run for office.-Building partnerships and coalitions among New American elected officials so they can advance more inclusive policies from state to state.-Researching solutions to create a more diverse leadership and make the political system more accessible to all Americans.We believe that when our elected officials mirror the makeup of our nation, we achieve stronger communities, a more responsive government and a robust democracy.

In August 2014, I was appointed by the Governor of Maryland to be the singular student voice for 160,000+ college students in 12 institutions and 2 regional centers in the state of Maryland. My responsibilities include passing policies, approving financial sales and programs, and making long-term decisions for the USM at-large. This involves attending several meetings and speaking to stakeholders across the state. The Student Regent position allows for ex-officio membership in the University System of Maryland Student Council.

I went to the Oglala Lakota Native American Reservation during Spring Break 2014 to provide service to this underrepresented population. There, we created ramps, installed trailer skirts, made bunk beds and delivered them to the population and learned about the population from daily interaction with elders and locals. This Spring Break (2015), I organized an AB Trip to Knoxville, TN to study the social issue of Domestic Violence. I planned pre- and post-trip service meetings, fundraising efforts, reflections, trip logistics, community partner engagements, etc.

Lead students in activities to promote self-awareness and understanding of leadership and social change: 1. Maryland Leadership Conference – 3 day conference for current UMD students focused on implementing a personal vision2. Turtle Camp – 5 day retreat for incoming freshman and transfer students focused on community-building, growth and understanding3. MOSAIC – 3 day conference focused on identity, oppression, privilege and action Note: I facilitated each of the above programs 2 years in a row but was a lead facilitator for each in the second year (which required several additional hours of curriculum planning, logistic efforts and general facilitator training)

Partners in Print Presenters go to over a dozen elementary schools in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties in Maryland to help engage students and teach parents different reading techniques to use with their kids at home. Here, I led interactive workshops with small groups of parents and children twice a week and explained reading techniques to improve reading in the home. Partners in Print is a bilingual program.America Reads Mentors work one-on-one with 1st and 2nd grade students to improve their reading and writing abilities. I worked with three students twice a week during school hours as a mentor in this program.

Through the Science and Technology Program at Eleanor Roosevelt High School (ERHS), I was able to solidify an internship my senior year in the Sand Fly Biology Lab at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. There, I conducted research on gregarine control in sand flies. I was able to present my research at a research symposium at ERHS at the conclusion of my internship program.
