Monthly ColumnistJewish Press Sep 2024 - PresentRabbi Reuven Chaim Klein's *Names & Numen* column delves into the significance of Jewish names, tracing their origins and meanings and exploring their impact on identity and heritage. The column covers the historical and etymological journey of Jewish names, from Tanach and Chazal to modern Israeli names, and discusses the cultural and spiritual dimensions of naming. Through this exploration, the column highlights how names are not just identifiers but reflections of one’s essence, and how they have evolved, with attention to halachic and minhagic aspects of Jewish naming practices. -
Researcher/WriterOz V'Hadar Sep 2020 - PresentI am the head researcher/writer of the Mishnayos Shearim project, Seder Nashim. This Mesivta-like commentary to the Mishnah comprises various sections including a line commentary to the Mishnah called Kol Demamah Dakah (originally written by Rabbi Dr. Harry Zvi Davis), Shaar HaTalmud (a running commentary to the Mishnah based on the Babylonian Talmud, Jerusalemic Talmud, and Tosefta with an emphasis on the final Halachah), Shaar HaDrashos (a compendium of the exegetical material that offer Scriptural sources for the rulings of the Mishnah), Shaar HaAgados (an anthology of non-Halachic and often times language-centered insights to the Mishnah), Shaar HaIyyunim (in-depth analyses and presentations of more complicated materials that are relevant to multiple Mishnayos). -
Staff MemberOhr Somayach 2016 - PresentJerusalem Area, IsraelMy various at duties and roles at Ohr Somayach have consisted of:* Writing the "What's in a Word?" column for the wekly OhrNet Internet Magazine.* Teaching as a featured lecturer in the Wild Side Summer Program and other Bein HaZmanim programs (mostly lectured on Tanach and history).* Being on call and serving as a substitute teacher and field trip supervisor.* Co-hosting the Mechinah Thursday night Mishmar program with Rabbi Salenger. The weekly essays are on the topic of synonyms in the Hebrew language. In each article, I discuss two or more ostensible synonyms and explain the differences between them. The philological research I engage in with these essays touch on morphology, etymology, and comparative Semitics, and often-times work to provide religious or philosophical meaning to linguistic phenomena. These essays are intended for the layman, but are still quite scholarly endeavors. -

Founding EditorVeromemanu Foundation Apr 2018 - PresentIsraelThe Veromemanu Foundation is a rabbinic think-tank of scholars who delve into the profound depths of Biblical Hebrew to discover its hidden wisdom. The flagship project of the Veromemanu Foundation is Yalkut Shorashim, a multi-volume lexicon which is essentially a compendium of earlier grammatical works concerning roots in the Hebrew language. This work seeks to highlight the differences between triliteral theorists (like Yonah Ibn Janah and David Kimhi) and proponents of biliteralism and even monoliteralism (like Menachem Ibn Saruq). In my capacity as editor of this project, I have taken care of several scholarly tasks: * I prepared a revised and annotated edition of Ibn Saruq's lexicon Machberet Menahem based on the unpublished critical edition compiled by the late Professor Angel Sáenz-Badillo from Harvard University. * I prepared Cheshek Shlomo by Rabbi Shlomo Pappenheim (1740-1814) for inclusion in our lexicon. This entailed writing summaries of his expositions and adding notes to clarify ambiguities in his writing. * I was also responsible for drafting charts which summarized the positions of all the relevant authorities concerning every root in the Hebrew language. * I have also been working on editing and translating various language-related essays written by the Veromemanu Foundation's founder, Yehoshua Steinberg, in anticipation of their future publication. * I spearheaded the Hapex Generator project which will allow online access to a database of Hebrew roots that only appear once in the Bible according to various early grammarians.* I am currently compiling a work on synonyms in the Hebrew language, which will include a new edition of Rabbi Shlomo of Urbino's classical work Ohel Moed.
