As a marketing communications professional, I worked in the not-for-profit arena for more than 30 years producing award-winning print publications and web sites. As a writer and editor I developed brochure text, news stories, web site copy, fundraising appeals, forms, invitations, and posters; copyedited academic journals and books; and prepared on-line direct communications. In my position at the University of Notre Dame, prior to my retirement, I also managed special events, handled logistics for the research visitors program, and had general operations responsibility for the Medieval Institute, one of the University's leading research centers and a world-renowned academic location for the study of the Middle Ages. My work in the Medieval Institute allowed me to combine my professional skills with my original academic focus in medieval history. Now, I'm turning my experience into a consulting practice and I'm particularly excited about a new venture: finding non-academic jobs for ABD and postdoctoral humanities scholars! There are so many very bright, employable people with outstanding academic credentials who are having trouble finding jobs outside higher education, that I'd like to put my talents as a mentor and problem-solver to use in working with them one-to-one on job search strategies.
