About Rebecca Abernethy

I am an environmental health scientist and policy analyst, with a background in ecology and passion for environmental and human health protection. My career objective is to make a difference and have a positive impact on the environment that we all depend on, which has numerous human health and socioeconomic benefits as well. I do this by contributing to the development of responsible environmental policy and programs that reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants and focus on clean, renewable energy. I also have experience conducting and reviewing human health risk assessments, as well as broader environmental and health impact assessments.I have worked in academia, the private sector, and public sector. I have engaged with diverse stakeholder groups, including elected officials from all levels of government, scientific and technical experts, private clients, industry groups, public servants and regulators, the public and First Nations.Personally, I greatly enjoy self-propelled outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling, paddling, and skiing that connect me with the natural world and are low impact.
