Rachael Cerrotti is an award-winning author, podcaster, educator, and curator based in Maine. Through an interdisciplinary practice, she explores stories rooted in the humanity of grief and inherited memory. She is the host of two podcasts - a narrative show titled We Share The Same Sky and an ongoing conversational show called Along The Seam. She is currently a fellow with The Witness Institute where she is part of an international cohort of leaders who are exploring how to build communities of moral reflection. She is also a fellow with New America, where she joins a cohort of other storytellers and community leaders working to produce projects that commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of The United States.Rachael’s most notable body of work is her long-term project, We Share The Same Sky, that follows her decade-long journey to retrace her grandmother’s war story. Her narrative podcast based on this work was the first-ever documentary podcast based on a Holocaust survivor’s testimony and was listed as one of the best podcasts of the year by HuffPost, a Reader’s Pick by Vulture Magazine and as a “Show We Love” by Apple Podcasts; it is now being taught in classrooms around the world. Her critically-acclaimed debut memoir, also titled We Share The Same Sky, was released in August 2021. It won the Maine Literary Award, was shortlisted for the 2022 William Saroyan International Prize for Writing, received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly and was listed as one of the best books of the month by Apple Books. Most recently, this project took form as a traveling museum exhibition which Rachael curated. That opened in September 2023 at The Florida Holocaust Museum and will tour across the country in the years ahead.Rachael regularly speaks to communities worldwide, partners with institutions, museums and organizations as a consultant and runs writing and storytelling workshops. She also visits classrooms with students from as young as fourth grade through adult education, most often leading programming rooted in family history. Rachael’s stories have been published and featured by publications worldwide. In 2017, she was the subject of an award-winning multimedia series produced by WBUR, Boston’s NPR station, titled Beyond Sides of History. Her stories have been used in curriculums developed by and for Discovery Education, USC Shoah Foundation, Echoes & Reflections, Facing History & Ourselves, Jewish Women’s Archive and others. She sits on the board of Aegis Trust and Community Plate.
