My responsibilities working at the Nelson County Times was essentially to be the unofficial "watch dog" in the county. I needed to know everything that was going on...and what wasn't. I had to have a creative and fast-thinking mind. I juggled meetings, court cases out of town, community events or just anything that came up on a day to day basis. I would investigate, report, write and edit stories for the weekly and maintain a close relationship with county officials and key movers and shakers.

My job at prototype was to dig deeper into businesses. I had the opportunity to visit and learn of so many businesses in the surrounding area that some I had never even heard of. I got to meet the owners and learn how they got to where they are today and what struggles they had to bypass to get there. I reported and wrote the story that was in turn published in a monthly business magazine.

I managed a group of writers and brainstormed story ideas for them. Once they submitted their stories, I edited them and worked with Indesign to set the layout of my section. This could be challenging at times because I always wanted my pages to look differently than they had in the previous weeks. I had to work to jigsaw all my stories onto the page without making the paper look too wordy or vacant.
