I am also responsible for a bilingual column on all things English and Canada in the monthly village newsletter. At the junior high schools, my role as ALT is to support the Japanese teachers of English in their classes, which follow the English curriculum as set out by the Japanese Ministry of Education.Duties include helping to create lesson plans, planning and implementing classroom activities, conducting evaluations, and creating a welcoming and fun environment for the students to enjoy learning English. At kindergarten and elementary school, I am solely responsible for creating and implementing an English language curriculum, which I have been doing for the last 4 years. I created the curriculum with two goals in mind: the first being to support English education in junior high school, and the second being to introduce English in a fun and manageable way for young learners. Since implementing this curriculum, students are more comfortable interacting in English, and oral communication skills have greatly improved. Show less
