I've worn many hats in my life: NASA rocket scientist, cancer researcher, intellectual property attorney, in-house counsel, and top salesperson in a small business. Using all of these experiences, I provide counsel (and solutions) for IP issues that arise where business, innovation, and the law intersect. My experience includes:• As a member of a global Intellectual Property team, manage global IP portfolios (patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets) for business units; develop and implement IP strategies to achieve company's long-term business goals for specialty products• Counsel management, innovators, business, regulatory, and marketing, to company’s global IP strategies; navigate product R&D issues and timely harvesting innovations; analyze business opportunities, develop IP strategies, and manage IP portfolios through lifecycle; provide day-to-day legal counsel on IP-related matters• Provide opinions on IP clearance, infringement, patentability, and validity; monitor third party patents to identify and mitigate IP risks and R&D and licensing opportunities• Prep/prosecution of global patents/trademarks; manage outside counsels’ handling of IP portfolios, manage oppositions, provide technical analyses, legal opinions, and legal counsel on current/future products; assess, communicate, and manage IP risks• Draft and negotiate IP-focused agreements, such as confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, licensing agreements; R&D agreements, collaboration agreements; collaborate with commercial attorneys to support IP-related matters in joint development agreements, manufacturing/services agreements, and other agreements• Perform IP due diligence relating to acquisition of specialty businesses and proposed joint ventures• Patent/trademark infringement litigation, including pre-litigation counseling, handling expert witnesses, discovery, trial support, appellate practice; commercial litigation on patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and unfair competition; patent challenges through Inter partes review and post-grant proceedings• Conduct regular training/counseling business units and research teams on IP-related issues• Review presentations, scientific publications, and advertising/marketing materials for IP compliance; provide counsel on privacy issues• Work with commercial, regulatory, and corporate attorneys to address complex IP/legal issues in a global environment; work with outside counsel; conduct regular training/counseling business units and research teams on IP-related issues; support other projects as needed.
