As Station Leader Rachael was accountable for all station operations including management of up to 120 expeditioners in Summer and 18 people over Winter. This included the safe delivery of a $20m research program.Key duties included:- ensuring the safety and welfare of station personnel through the Antarctic winter;- representing Australia in Antarctica, managing international relations with Chinese, Russian and Indian expeditions.- managing air operations for the transport of personnel and cargo within a 2,000km radius of the station using two fixed wing aircraft and three helicopters.- overseeing the facility, plant and equipment maintenance program including power generation and water supply, involving a team of 30 specialists from a range of trades.- delivering the summer research program involving 22 science projects and 33 scientists from 5 countries, on time and on budget.- accountablility for the implementation of operational policies and procedures including risk assessment, OHS, EEO, audit, inventory management and environment. - managing internal and external communications, including over 60 media interviews
