Events And Fundraiser

Sheffield Rag

Sheffield RAG (Raising and Giving) is an award winning fundraising society and has been one of the biggest parts of my life whilst being at University in Sheffield. In the year 2012/13 we raised £174,627 then for 2013/14 we raised £196,678. I was voted onto the committee in second year with the position Inclusiveness Officer and then ran again in third year for an Events and Fundraising position. Events I have organised include:• A 13 mile night-hike through the peak district for 650 students. This required a huge amount of administration and database work. We developed a marketing strategy using innovative ideas which stepped away from traditional posters and flyers. An example of this is our logobugs, advertising on screens within the union and targeting specific groups such as sports teams via our Adopt a Charity representative. This event made over £14,667.• A treasure hunt across Europe for 100 students. I was in charge of logistics and admin, and also made a stop-motion promotional video and posters. Due to fatal flooding across Europe we had to cancel the event, and despite my own disappointment I dealt very professionally with a large number of angry and upset students. I then had to try and reclaim as much of the money we had lost on deposits as possible, earning me valuable communication and persuasive skills whilst dealing with conflict.• An event called Survival Night which I helped to create. This involved taking fifty students to a wood at night where they had to complete various challenges, most of which involved zombies. It was extremely satisfying to see an event I had helped to create come to life and we had very good feedback from participants. I am confident that Survival Night will grow bigger and better every year and has the potential to be a huge fundraiser. This is only a small sample of my work with RAG and would love to discuss more of my work if requested.
