I always loved business studies during school, which ignited my dream of owning my own business. When my children were young, I worked as a government fraud investigator. I started personalising T-shirts on a part-time basis with printing & embroidery. My business grew as I supplied local teams & businesses with logo-based apparel & accessories. I moved to eBay, etsy and our own websites advertising personalised gifts and accessories. In 2011 both myself and husband Mark took voluntary redundancy, and moved to Florida, USA and opened a Workshop, Website, Etsy & Ebay shops. During 2020 COVID restrictions I was unable to travel to the US. I was having to run all our shops from the UK with Mark managing the production on the USA side as he was already in the USA at this time. Our main income was our 3 Etsy shops in the UK & USA, all with incredible sales, reviews, and customer retentions, after 10 years of successful selling with Etsy. At this time we had an issue with Etsy on one of our shops. While this issue was being rectified all of our shops were suspended both in the UK and USA. After 4 weeks of no income we clarified the misunderstanding. sadly, Etsy still refused to lift the suspensions on my shops (by Automated Email) and refused to answer any further emails. They shut down my whole business & entire income in one day. We lost our business visa to remain in the USA as it relied heavily on this turnover and employing two USA citizens. Having gone through this problem with Etsy I was shocked to hear how common this was within our industry. The dream with Mayfli is I want to offer UK Small Businesses all the options to fully control their business Via the Marketplace and with a connected Webstore which can be viewed through the marketplace and as a stand-alone website. This will give them a more streamlined and controllable selling platform, with a stronger brand identity. Personal one to one contact with us and removing the fears of their shop being closed or their website going out of date. Supporting sellers with our own knowledge and bringing in expert speakers and trainers to hold events supporting the UK Small Business Community.I’m passionate about helping UK Small Businesses, building Mayfli and a caring community amongst sellers is the ultimate dream.
