This work includes a number of freelance projects, including outsourced copywriting and media communications for small independent businesses.

This role spans across crafting content, timing media coverage and releases, media campaign planning, social media strategy, and showroom management.

From January 2018, I will be working for IMN on a freelance capacity. This job requires skills beyond simply reporting the news; not only is it necessary to know how to research, write, and self-edit interesting interviews and news content, it also requires basic Photoshop, Wordpress, in addition to working in an administrative, and occasionally ad selling, capacity. I have thoroughly enjoyed working full-time here and look forward to continuing to be a part of its growth, while having the time to simultaneously pursue other projects.

I wrote one of six stories which were then assembled into a "pod play" that I also took part in. A recording of my voice narrating my story was used in an app, so that audience members' phones would react to the performers' phones via bluetooth. This meant that both could hear the same audio track simultaneously while the audience member observed the performers movement piece. Think of it as a silent disco for outdoor theatre. This was a unique chance for me to combine my creative writing with two mediums of performance; recorded voice acting and movement. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and I'm proud of the art we created and that I had the opportunity to take part.

Ballpoint Press taught me how to hone my editing abilities over the years, as well as giving me insight into how a small publishing company works, teaching me how to sell and promote books, and, most valuably, how to make contacts and how to promote a product. It has also given me an eye for understanding what content is appropriate for which audience and how crucial the editing process is to any written content.

Responsibilities in this role included liaising with student writers and editing their journalistic contributions to our 'jumble' food and drink review section, writing feature articles and/or interviews, working to deadline, establishing contacts within the industry (not only for magazine content but also to cater for our launch events), and keeping a finger on the pulse of Dublin's ever-changing food and drink scene- with a student's budget in mind.
