Outputs included tenders for new contracts, truck branding, school resources, safety communications for on the ground staff, and launching of new waste projects such as used cooking oil recycling in the UAE.During my time i conducted a brand refresh, streamlined processes, including how work was booked in with the creative team and how it was allocated and assigned and improved feedback mechanisms with the design team and other departments. i also improved internal branding on Sharepoint and internal projects, and creating an easy to use template suite for staff. I worked as part of the design team creating print items such as leaflets, posters and booklets, as well as online items such as PDF’s and web banners. During this time I learnt how to be adaptable and quick to respond to last minute changes and requests. I also worked on more substantial projects such as the annual report.

I worked in the Children's book department, laying out new books and making adjustments to reprints and reissues. I also updated the maps in the Alfred Wainwright ‘Pennine Way Companion’ guide book, ahead of the books first reissue in over 40 years.

The Water Design Challenge was an initiative for Key Stage 3 students and teachers in the South East who were interested in using design to change the way people use water and in making water saving easy and enjoyable. As a design ambassador I worked alongside the schools and their pupils to come up with ideas and communicate them. The school I worked with reach the final of the competition with their educational gaming app idea, and the app was later developed by Southern Water.

From working at WHSmith I have learnt how to communicate and listen to customers allowing me to provide high levels of customer service. Whilst working in the book department I have developed skills in promoting products, visual merchandising and people management, training other members of staff whilst working as part of a team.

Working on the Forward Thinking Programme with Age Concern Hackney and Common Ground to help men aged 50-65 in Hackney be better prepared for future life.

From completing a placement with Dare and Healthy for Men magazines, I learnt how the magazine industry operates from the beginning stages of photo shoots and research, to designing mock up spreads and helping with picture research. From this placement I learnt research skills, how senior and junior team members work together and how to design layouts suitable for different types of magazines and audiences.
