Before university I spent a year at YMT (Newcastle and Hexham Diocesan Youth Ministry Team) working with local schools through a programme of outreach, residential retreats and festivals. Living and working with eleven other team members I developed excellent interpersonal skills, communication and team work, and learned about conflict resolution, mediation, putting myself and my ideas forward, and helping others to do the same. Through the work we did I developed leadership and public speaking skills and how to plan and manage events and programmes. I received training in good safeguarding practice and how to work effectively with vulnerable young people.
