StudentSouthern New Hampshire University Dec 2019 - Apr 2024United StatesI began pursuing a bachelors degree double majoring in Communications with a concentration in Professional Writing and in Creative Writing and English. I graduated April 2024 summa cum laude with an accumulated GPA of 3.97. The only reason for the delay in achieving my degree was because I was diagnosed with throat cancer in January 2021, and finished chemotherapy and radiation treatment by May of the same year. I continued school as much as possible, pausing or going down to part-time only when absolutely medically necessary, in order to complete my degree. I am profoundly proud of the fact that I overcame cancer while attending college, and I still managed to achieve such high grades and honors. -

Native American ArtisanRachel Plummer Feb 2010 - Sep 2018Eagle Creek, Oregon, United StatesOnce my children graduated I decided to explore my cultural artisan expression found in my tribe's (Northern Cheyenne) Native American beadwork. My own grandfather was Miles Horn, and he was a great painter as well, so I spent some time exploring the artistic medium of canvas painting as well. When my granddaughter was born a short time later, I continued my artistic endeavors as I also provided childcare for her until she went off to school. Then I sought to achieve my own lifelong dream of earning a bachelors degree (beginning in 2019, which I now have completed as of April 1st, 2024). My Bachelors of Arts degree is a double major in Communications, and also in Creative Writing and English, and I am proud to say that I earned an accumulated GPA of 3.97, and graduated summa cum laude. The time spent in artistic pursuit, was truly valuable time for me to connect to my Indigenous heritage, explore my innate artistry and recalibrate my career goals which ultimately reignited my lifelong dream to attain a higher education. WahOO! Life is Good! To Live is a Gift!
