Over the last twenty years, Rachel has increased awareness of the nature crisis, including advocating for new environmental legislation and resources for nature’s recovery in Wales. This has led to species reintroductions and the restoration of critical wildlife habitats. She is now involved in innovative green financing and gaining recognition of the importance of the marine environment. She has been a lead advocate for nature-based solutions to climate change and for investing in sustainable land management in Wales. Her career has enabled a deep understanding of the importance of protecting wildlife for its intrinsic value but also for people’s well-being, its role in climate change adaptation, and its importance in tackling social inequalities. Rachel is a trustee of Wales Environment Link and a founder member of the DCWW Independent Environment Advisory Panel. She’s a member of the Wales Net Zero Wales Reference Group, providing advice on pathways to achieve net zero by 2035. Voted as one of the 50 Shape Changers by the Future Generations Commissioner for her work on stopping the proposed M4 Relief Road through the Gwent Level wetlands. She remains passionate about achieving a nature-positive Wales and sees a critical role for nature in tackling climate change.The Wildlife Trusts are a grassroots movement of people from a wide range of backgrounds and all walks of life, who believe that we need nature and nature needs us. We have more than 911,000 members, over 35,000 volunteers, 2,000 staff and 600 trustees. There are 46 individual Wildlife Trusts, each of which is a place-based independent charity with its own legal identity, formed by groups of people getting together and working with others to make a positive difference to wildlife and future generations, starting where they live and work.

In responding to the First Minister’s manifesto commitment to establish an “Expert Panel” to review the implications for Wales of the development of a nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point in Somerset. The group provides stakeholder views to Ministers, as required, on issues arising from the Hinkley Point C project that are relevant to Wales and the people of Wales and maximising individual and community wellbeing by reducing harm to people and the environment.

Wales Environment Link (WEL) is the umbrella body for environmental and countryside non-governmental organisations in Wales. Busy network, active in a range of policy areas, and the official link between the Welsh Government and Wales' Environmental NGO sector.WEL is a mechanism and framework to help Welsh eNGOs achieve collective goalsa voice for the environment movement in Wales; a route of communication and dialogue between eNGOs and government and an information provider

Panel will put the Welsh Government’s ‘Living Wales’ agenda into practice, the Independent Environment Advisory Panel (IEAP) has been established to support Dŵr Cymru to (i) maximise the value of its investment programme for customers and the environment, and (ii) to secure a safe and sustainable future for our environment; one that is able to support the economy and quality of life for generations to come.As well as environmental considerations, the IEAP will take into account the social and economic consequences of any advice they offer, including the impact they may have on the ‘affordability’ of any investments Dŵr Cymru makes as a result of such advice.
