About Rachel Bowen
I combine a passion for driving meaningful change in gender equity with technical skills in developing strategic plans and follow up metrics, program assessment, research design, grant writing, and monitoring & evaluation using qualitative and quantitative methods. Diversity, Equity, & InclusionMy leadership at Ohio State’s office for gender equity, The Women’s Place, included developing and evaluating innovative programs to advance gender equity, facilitating discussions around topics such as bias and social justice, and using data to drive and monitor change. At The Women’s Place, we worked with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the university’s commitments to Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion for all employees. I expanded the national and international reach of The Women’s Place, notably through consulting on how to engage men as allies for gender equity and through our leadership development programs.Subject Matter Expert: GESI, GBV, and Rule of LawFor the past 20 years, I have zeroed in on violence against women, human rights, and rule of law development, with a regional specialization in Latin America. My research as a political science professor allowed me to engage deeply with activists, government officials, and women survivors of violence in Central America to understand the connections between violence, justice, and empowerment. In the process, I contributed to proposal design and MEL efforts in GBV projects for USAID in the LAC region. WritingI am the author of peer-reviewed publications, including articles, chapters, and a solo-authored book. I am committed to communicating political science to audiences beyond academia. To that end, I have published essays, given presentations, and been interviewed for national, local, and international outlets. My essays have been published in The Washington Post, Huffington Post Mexico, and Newsweek, among others. I am currently on Medium: https://medium.com/@rachelebowen. Politics should be accessible.Connect to collaborate on building a more inclusive world.
