“It also seems impossible until it is done.” — Nelson MandelaI read this quote a while back, but whenever I think about it, I feel the same impact, the same response. I’m reminded that “no” or “I can’t” can never be an option. If we really try, anything is possible. Yea, I really believe pretty much anything is possible. I think this kind of philosophy is what led me to work in mission-based, nonprofit organizations, especially those focused on child welfare and underserved populations. If we really believe that children are our future, then we need to teach them, to instill in them the belief that anything is possible. I guess when it comes to my role in all of this, I create the framework so this can happen —the everyday administration so my organizations can make a lasting impact. I’ve funneled my passion for child welfare and helping those who can’t help themselves into a career in nonprofit operations, program development and management, and community engagement. When they hear about a nonprofit, many people hear only the message or the mission; that’s partially done on purpose to keep the focus on the “sexy” part of an organization. But any successful nonprofit is supported by many people working behind the scenes creating programs, making policies, developing partnership…even managing the budget and ensuring regulatory compliance. That’s where I come in. At each past employer, I have helped make sure everything was in place so the organization could fulfill its mission. I’ve also started to gain a reputation for helping struggling organization or programs quickly turnaround and are soon providing high-quality services.
