About Rachel Bryan
I'm a non-practising career-changing solicitor with experience in the homeless sector, data analysis, admin, and sales. I teach myself languages, mostly Spanish, but I dip into French, Italian, Korean and Swedish from time to time. I achieved Grade 4 in piano and am a self-taught guitar and drums player. My latest hobby is skateboarding (although this changes quarterly), and when I can I surf, ski, scuba dive and windsurf. I am a passionate (but bad) novel writer. I love to travel; I spent the summers of 2014/15 travelling across SE Asia and one day hope to travel across South America. In school I was very active; I played football, netball (both in & out of school), basketball, cross-country, athletics and rounders, & I continued netball at uni. Now I stick to yoga and the occasional jog.

Partnership Manager (South East And South West)
Partnership Manager (South East)
I support services in the South East working in or alongside the homeless sector to work collaboratively in a way which suits both their needs and that of the client. Using Homeless Link's collaboration powers, I support the organisation of local forums, sitting on steering groups across the counties. I provide intel on national and local trends in homelessness both to MHCLG and to services, can support in lobbying, signpost to local services, and provide or look for examples of best practice to share nationwide, and provide bespoke 121 support to services to resolve issues being seen on the ground.
Swep Coordinator
Seconded from CGL to Brighton & Hove County Council as the new SWEP Coordinator, coordinating the loss of life Severe Weather Emergency Protocol for rough sleepers in Brighton & Hove. My role was to overhaul the current SWEP procedure to create a smooth and streamlined process out of what is ultimately a chaotic and reactive situation. Firstly I developed strong partnerships with core stakeholders (LA/Commissioned/VCFs) across the city, developing a procedure and a referral process for SWEP activation, with fortnightly meetings to review the procedure and drill it into place. Then, upon SWEP activation, organise referrals, sometimes over 100/night, to place rough sleepers across Brighton & East Sussex. Each placement required me to factor in multiple considerations: client safety, likelihood of attendance, arson risks or safety to women, personal relations between rough sleepers, substance use or management, even things like dietary requirements, religion, and staff safety. I had to follow up on every client to ensure contact had been made and safety plans put in place for those refusing to access. We placed people in a combination of hotels, supported accommodations, and a new 45 bed 36 room accommodation. An unexpected but large part of my role was making upto 45 beds a night! Ensuring the building was safe, working closely with security, debriefing staff after dangerous events, managing volunteers and shift patterns was all a part of the role.Additionally, alongside the Commissioning Lead I developed the Verification Light model with a Triage Screening Tool which enabled those not verified by outreach to access SWEP if it was highly likely they were going to sleep rough during SWEP, ensuring rough sleeper safety while simultaneously ensuring that each person accessing SWEP had no other available options to them on the night to keep costs as low as possible for the council. It also prevented staff burnout and increased their peace of mind.
Data Analyst
The role of Data Analyst at CGL was new to Brighton Outreach so I was able, within reason, to make this role my own. It largely covered anything that wasn't directly outreach. It can be broken down into 3 parts, data administration, data analysis, and miscellaneous. The Data Administration part of the role required me to support staff in the somewhat relentless task of data entry. I did this both physically, and by working creatively with Salesforce to develop Bthink to streamline this task, to better meet the needs of the outreach team, the rough sleepers, and other relevant stakeholders who use Bthink. I kept this data up to date and accurate. In terms of Data Analysis, I routinely provided analysis of rough sleepers in Brighton to the local council and to DHLUC (now MHCLG again!), reporting on current trends and keeping an eye on changes to the demographics of our rough sleepers to be able to report on potential gaps in the system. In addition, I authored the biannual report by Brighton SOS for the local authority to provide evidence that our KPIs were being met.Under miscellaneous, I would include tasks such as organising the bi-monthly street count, monitoring Street Link and organising all rough sleeper referrals for the outreach team, and although I had no team under me to manage I acted as an honorary member of the management team. Third sector roles are of course very hands on, so it was simply a case of getting stuck in. I fostered relationships with other services in the area to promote partnership working, through which we organised vaccination parties for covid or Hep C, supported female rough sleepers with medical support, worked closely with the Tents & Encampments team to support rough sleepers while balancing ASB and rough sleeper safety. I covered outreach and SWEP shifts, minuted and supported the reconnections working group, developed procedures with the local authority and so on and so forth. I adored this role!
Administrative Assistant
I run multiple complex reports a day, invoice, and log the problems which come in daily, a long and complex procedure. I also do data entry when required.
Network Analyst
For a year I worked for SGN as a Network Analyst. Here, I analysed gas pipeline pressures and, if required, created and costed reinforcement options using Synergi, Excel & Powerpoint. I voluntarily restarted and then wrote the team’s quarterly newsletter, editing the managers’ blog pieces as required. Notably, I created a process accelerating the team’s average time per job which in turn wiped out their backlog and increased overall efficiency.
Trainee Solicitor
Seats: Employment (3 months), Family (9 months), Residential Property (6 months), Private Client (6 months)Whilst training as a solicitor my responsibilities included: drafting a wide range of documents to a variety of recipients (inc. letters, emails and orders), attending court and negotiating financial settlements, reviewing and explaining legal documents to clients, residential property work (including developing expertise in SDLT), private client work (inc. estate planning and drafting Wills), and using Companies House. My non-fee earning responsibilities included writing articles for the quarterly newsletter, and in my final Seat becoming the Trainee Solicitor Coordinator and Rep. I helped organise and set up many charity events for the firm, and even took part in several 10k charity runs organised by the firm.My caseload required me to keep on top of 10-20 active cases simultaneously, pushing me to perfect both my time management and communication skills, all the while ensuring that, no matter how much pressure I was under, all my work was kept to the highest standard. I am confident in talking to, making connections with, and providing support for anyone I work with or for, client or professional. I can read long, dry documents in short amounts of time and retain all that is useful and apply it as required. I have strong research skills and enjoy creating reports on researched topics. Furthermore, I took on high levels of responsibility, such as attending court alone with our clients, and doing so successfully gained me the trust and respect of my supervisors. I understand the importance of confidentiality and professionalism. Whilst I felt that being a solicitor was not the right role for me, I cannot deny the growth I experienced professionally during my time at TWM, nor the transferable skills that I can bring to any new role I take on.

Lpc Student
I received a Distinction in my LPC at the University of Law, Guildford, whilst at the same time completing my Master's where I also received a Distinction. I have completed the following modules: Introduction to Professional Practice, Business Law, Real Estate, Dispute Resolution, Family Law and Practice, Intellectual Property Law and Practice, Advanced Real Estate Law and Practice, and Private CIient Law and Practice. Waitress
Sales And Merchandising Assistant
I worked as the Sales and Merchandising Assistant for the Audio department and as the Brand Ambassador for Ted Baker Audio. My job was to build relationships with major stores such as John Lewis, Harrods and Selfridges and train their staff to increase general awareness of a new brand and improve their technical knowledge on the products. Bullitt Group is a small but rapidly expanding company, and thus my job required a lot of responsibility to get everything done with minimal support or training, and I believe this helped me to develop quickly and strongly to the working world. It taught me how to take initiative when resolving problems. Moreover, I was in charge of my own schedule and so I learnt how best to organise my working life in order to achieve my objectives.
Sales Representative
I worked here part-time whilst at school and university. Excellent telephone manner and good customer service skills were a necessity. The environment was constantly busy and taught me how to work well under serious pressure over long hours, something that has moulded my work ethic to this day.
