Can I tell you the number of times my Executive Director made snide comments about all. the. glitter? The answer is no, I cannot, because I cannot count that high. Seriously, it drove me nuts, especially because although I do like glitter, I don’t use it all the time, for every program. * insert eyeroll emoji *But what really drove me nuts was how all my co-workers continually missed the fact that real, serious learning was happening, despite the crayons, toys, and occasional glitter. They thought my work was childish, because I work with children. And being underappreciated like that set me on a path to overwork and burnout, as I tried desperately to prove the value of my brand of museum work.Now I’m dedicating my time to helping my fellow museum educators reclaim their time, creativity, and emotional energy, and get the recognition they deserve. I believe that museum education can change the world, and now I'm dedicating my time to creating high quality services, professional development, and a supportive community for museum educators who are stretched-thin, but still in love with the work they do.
