About Rachel Fitzd

MEET RACHEL: I am a leading, internationally known baby expert & parenting mentor. I am the Agony Aunt for Mother&Baby and author of the 5-star rated book “Your Baby Skin To Skin”. Exceptionally skilled and experienced in all aspects of baby behaviour from feeding and soothing through to weaning and sleeping, mothers say: “no-one understands babies and motherhood like Rachel FitzD”WHO I MENTOR: Women moving from the corporate world to motherhood describe feeling a loss of control and certainty when they have a baby. This, together with disturbed sleep, loss of financial independence and lack of a distinct support network can leave them feeling vulnerable and confused. Before they know it, their workplace beckons and they have no idea how to help their baby gain feeding and sleeping independence as the clock ticks down!WHAT I DO: I bring clarity through a deep understanding of baby behaviour and development, teaching practical and sustainable strategies for feeding, sleeping, soothing and living with your baby enabling you to regain a sense of self and discover more confident ways to mother. I assist practically and emotionally from the moment you contact me through to your baby’s first birthday and beyond so that you can re-enter the world of work with the energy and dynamism you thought you had lost forever.WHY RACHEL: With over 30 years' experience as a specialist midwife, infant feeding consultant and parenting mentor, I bring immense skill, experience and dedication to whatever I do. I am committed to my priority ... and my priority is you. So if you’re struggling to understand your baby’s seemingly erratic behaviour and are too sleep-deprived to find a solution, or if you’re facing a return to work and need someone to mentor you in great weaning and sleeping strategies before you have to head back to the boardroom, call me!READY TO TALK? As co-director of Henley Birthcare I offered bespoke antenatal and postnatal freelance midwifery care. I returned to the NHS after 15 years out working privately as an active birth teacher and infant feeding specialist and bringing up four sons. I was quickly taken into the infant feeding team and asked to set up a breastfeeding drop-in in addition to the existing one. Having established myself as highly skilled in this field I chose to study tongue-tie, train to perform frenulotomy and then set up a frenulotomy clinic within the hospital. Having established myself as highly skilled in this field I chose to study tongue-tie, train to perform frenulotomy and then set up a frenulotomy clinic within the hospital. I was asked to write on the subject for "The Practicing Midwife" journal and the piece was both published in the journal and referenced in the first NICE guidelines produced on tongue-tie. I worked mainly in the community offering a holistic and individualised approach to my care. During this time I helped set up and run a successful "know your midwife" scheme to bring the benefits of the "case loading"model of midwifery to the local South Oxfordshire population. Show less

Combining the robust and practical aspects of the Classic Lamaze approach with Hypnobirthing created a powerful birth prep course. I quickly established myself as the woman to whom who midwives sent their most anxious clients for practical, emotional and effective preparation before birth AND for exceptional advice and support with feeding after the birth. By the time I returned to work in the NHS, I was well-known for my skills both locally and further afield. Show less
