Currently an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University's Thrive Center for Children, Families, & Communities and Department of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Rachel Hanebutt, Ed.M., M.A., M.S. completed her doctorate at Vanderbilt University, in the Community Research and Action program at Peabody College. Her dissertation focused on adolescent digital health strategies and teen wellbeing in partnership with #HalfTheStory, a leading educational intervention nonprofit in the space. Rachel previously served as a Project Manager and Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Velma McBride Murry in the Center for Advancing Racial-Ethnic Equity. In the lab, she focused on projects related to strengthening health equity, family engagement, and wellbeing through community research and interventions. Rachel received a Masters of Science (in passing) from Vanderbilt University, and has also received a Masters in Education from the Mind, Brain and Education Program from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Masters of Arts in Communication from the Civic Media, Art and Practice (now Media Design) program at Emerson College. She is a proud alum of DePauw University, where she graduated Cum Laude as a Political Science and Education Studies double major with a Chemistry minor. Rachel previously worked as the co-founder of Confi, a digital health startup focused on creating innovative interventions for sexual health and relationships for 18-30 year olds. She currently resides in Washington, D.C. with her supportive partner and two adopted cats. In her free time, she enjoys making things, watching crime TV shows on Netflix, and critiquing social media posts and trends.
