My best skill: 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. My obsession: 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹. So I do both. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲:𝗠𝘆 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀✔ My main outlet is my site, 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹'𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, where articles can gain readers for years to come. I use other social media (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest) primarily to connect readers to the site.✔ My newish site is 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐭, which will eventually contain information on travel to every UNESCO site in the world. It recently received 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞'𝐬 𝐇𝐨𝐭 𝐈𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 award.✔ I write thoughtful, honest, personal articles about what I see and experience. I write for intelligent, mature readers who are interested in history, culture and architecture.✔ I take photos of the places I visit. I'm not a professional photographer, and my photos look real, not photoshopped.✔ I meet deadlines.✔ In collaboration with travel companies, DMOs, etc., I am clear and upfront about expectations and obligations. I believe in holding to an ethical, honest approach. ✔ I don’t make promises I can’t keep.✔ As a mature, independent traveler, I am valued and trusted by other mature, independent travelers. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗲Joining the Peace Corps straight out of Yale, I was sent to Malawi. Two life-changing things happened there: 1) I became a teacher and 2) I met the Dutch man who would be my husband. After a 3-year long-distance relationship, we moved to California, where we married and lived for eight years. Since 1997 we’ve lived in Groningen, the Netherlands. We have two children, both grown. I gave up teaching in 2019 to focus on Rachel’s Ruminations. For those who like numbers, I have been to 73 countries (not just airport stops!) and 207 UNESCO sites.𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘆 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹’𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀✔ It gave me an ability to communicate with people clearly and calmly.✔ I developed admirable patience. Things don’t always go right, and I can deal with that.✔ It honed my writing.
