While attending college, I started out pursuing a degree in engineering until my 3rd semester where I had my first programming class for Fortran. In taking this class, I fell in love...with programming. It spoke to me, so I changed my major to computer science. I faced some personal challenges pursing a computer science degree, which resulted in me having to drop a minor I was striving to attain, as well as dropping to part-time status. However, during this time, I was offered a full-time job (internship) which focused on my desired career path and allowed me to develop skills I would need upon graduation if I wanted to pursue a career in computers and/or programming. Outside work, I enjoy a great many hobbies; there are two that I picked up recently that I had always wanted to do while growing up: horse riding and playing table-top role playing games (RPGs). As a child, I loved horses (knew everything there was to know about them from a child's point of view) and wanted to be a jockey. Sadly, I was too tall, so that dream was a bust. Later, in my 20s, I set myself a goal of learning to ride. Due to resources, namely finding someone to teach me, this goal was put on the back-burner until I finally met someone who could give me lessons, even though it was 20 years later.These days, I ride and train horses, as well as volunteer, at a therapeutic riding center.When I was in high school, I'd heard about table-top role playing games (RPGs), specifically Dungeons & Dragons, and really wanted to try them. Unfortunately at the time, girls getting into RPGs was very difficult. I eventually met a gentleman who played and invited me to join his group. We've been playing regularly, ever since.People often turn their noses up at RPGs, but what they may not realize is that the games take place in a group environment. With the exception of the story-teller, everyone is on the same team. They have to work together, come up with plans for overcoming obstacles. It teaches how to be a team, without being obvious. Also...math.
