-Studied effect of virulence protein VirE2 from plant pathogen, Agrobacterium tumefaciens, on plant host gene expression and the plant immune system using molecular biological and Next Generation Sequencing techniques.-Studied bacterial and host protein interactions involved in Agrobacterium- and Ensifer-mediated plant genetic transformation for application and development of “designer crops” for the improvement of global food security and sustainability.-Trained and mentored undergraduate researchers, rotation students, and research interns from Taiwan, China, Nigeria, Ecuador, India, Albania, France, and America. Assisted with the management of daily lab operations and primary lab manager when PI was traveling (2-4 months out of the year) .-Fostered and coordinated research collaborations with research laboratories in Ireland and Japan.-Gave oral presentations of scientific findings at four national and two international Agrobacterium research conferences. -Characterized and classified a 7 member plant cell wall gene family of unknown function in Arabidopsis thalia using loss and gain of function mutants, genomic analysis, growth tests, and molecular biology techniques from January 2010 through May 2012.-Designed constructs for transgene expression of metal binding proteins targeted to the plant cell wall in from August until the end of December 2009.-Organized and managed field planting, sample collection, pollination, breeding, and harvest as Assistant Field Manager in the Summer of 2010.-Managed greenhouse population of Arabidopsis for laboratory experiments, prepared stover samples for sugar component and pyrolysis analysis, prepared media, sterilized pipette tips and other supplies, and managed orders and shipments of samples and supplies for laboratory use from January 2009 through May 2009.
