Throughout her diverse career, Rachel has demonstrated a strong commitment to social causes, entrepreneurship, and making a positive impact in various sectors, including education, tourism, poverty alleviation, and sustainability.Rachel's career journey began in 2009 at the Chancellor's Office of Charles Darwin University, where she worked as an assistant to supporting fundraising activities for The Honourable Sally Thomas AC. In 2010, she returned home to join the Penang State Government as a Special Officer for Tourism Development and Culture. Her responsibilities included working closely with traditional and new media channels abroad, such as press, blogs, reality TV shows, and movie production, to enhance Penang's exposure and increase tourist arrivals. Penang achieved its highest-ever tourist arrival numbers by the end of her tenure. After serving at the government, she felt inspired to address extreme poverty in her own way. She founded a public relations and advertising firm named Panda and dedicated one month every year to volunteering in remote areas, providing basic needs like water and shelter while immersing herself in the local culture and gaining a deeper understanding of their needs. In 2013, she launched Queen's, Malaysia's first female-only hostel. This establishment aimed to offer a secure and enjoyable environment for women travelers, particularly those journeying solo. She developed a meticulous standard operating procedure that empowered the hostel's guests to manage operations themselves while maintaining an exceptional rating of 4.8 out of 5.0.Rachel had the honor of being a TEDx speaker in 2014. In 2015, she collaborated closely with the Social Welfare Department in Penang to establish a social enterprise called Yougeve, which supported 5,822 senior citizens without family or income. In 2016, her efforts assisting the smallest population of aborigines in Malaysia with their water system led to being gifted a piece of land in the northern tip of Borneo. This spurred her to embark on building a community school and explore off-grid construction techniques and sustainable energy solutions. In 2018, she joined a passionate group of engineers committed to delving into net-zero and energy efficiency practices.
