Office of Highway Development-As a project manager my job involved overseeing multi-million dollar statewide ADA accessibility, drainage repair, and storm water management (TMDL) construction contracts and their associated inspection contracts. My daily activities include review of cost estimates submitted by the contractor, aiding the contractor with field changes, contractor negotiations, project scheduling, administering monthly progress meetings and working closely with consulting firms providing inspection. Office of Construction- As a Project Engineer, I supervised construction field projects on a daily basis to ensure adherence to the project plans and specifications. Projects included local streetscape designs including storm drains, storm water management, erosion and sediment controls, traffic signals, curb and gutter and paving operations. My daily activities included working with the contractor to avoid potential claims, tracking all items paid in the contract, creating as-built plans, and leading all monthly progress meetings between SHA and the contractor. As part of a 6 month rotation, I assisted the Division Chief of the Construction Inspection department. This work included monitoring multi-million dollar construction consultant invoices on a monthly basis for spending, prepared benchmarks for standard of consultant proposals, reviewing multiple multi-million dollar consultant construction management proposals for selection of consultant team, and working towards developing a budget for consultant expense spending necessary for the contracts.
