About Rachel Simrell Scott
Originally trained as an architect, I now harness those skills working where design meets technology, marketing design services to both businesses and consumers. My formal education includes a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) from the University of Oregon, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Art History & Visual Culture Studies from Whitman College. Informally, I am constantly learning, and have a bit of an obsession with absorbing online courses at 2x speed. At Board & Vellum – an integrated architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture firm in Capitol Hill, Seattle – I lead all our marketing efforts, helping grow our company from a firm of 13 dedicated individuals to an engaged team of nearly 50. Beyond my role in marketing strategy, I harness my training in design thinking to iterate on organizational management, firm structure, business development, branding, marketing, social media, content strategy, content design & production, business operations, and the development & cultivation of our award-winning firm culture. In 2019, we celebrated our fourth consecutive year as one of Seattle Business magazine's list of 100 Best Companies to Work For in Washington State. Board & Vellum is a case study for how a design firm can be both successful and a great place to work.When you love your work, it feels like play. When I shift gears from Board & Vellum, I put on my hat at Emerald Seven, an award-winning interdisciplinary design, web development, and content studio I co-founded with my partner, Blake Scott. As our design and tech laboratory, Emerald Seven is our space for exploring new technologies and geeking out with selective integrative design projects.
